The city of Košice
In 2016, Art Film Fest moved house to Košice, chiefly drawn by the city’s more accommodating infrastructure. The cultural and economic hub of eastern Slovakia, Košice is an ideal location for a film festival.
Cinemas and cultural venues
Art Film Fest will be held in the centre of Košice. The programme of accompanying events for the wider public will take place on the city’s Hlavná ulica (Main Street). Films will be screened at the venues listed below.
Veritas
The cinema in Dominican Square with tradition. During the totalitarian regime, it was the memorable Dukla cinema. After the revolution, the Cinefil film club was built on its foundations. As of 2023, it has a total capacity of 234 seats and is equipped with the most modern technologies, spectacular acoustics and a cinema screen with digital projection.
The Amphitheatre
Capacity: 3,000 seats. With seating for 3,000 spectators, Košice’s Amphitheatre has been recognized throughout the region since its construction in 1954. The first summertime film screenings here date back to 1965’s “Filmový Festival Pracujúcich” (Workers’ Film Festival), which, after many years in the city’s cinemas, had been relocated to the amphitheatre. It was here on Saturday, 19 June 1965, that the premiere of Oscar-winning film The Shop on Main Street, set in the Slovak town of Sabinov and starring Jozef Kroner, was seen by a whopping 20,000 viewers.
